This is a list serves as a dedicated link for Finland Helsinki Mission Alumnae and interested parties worldwide. Since this is a public open
forum, we ask that you keep your posts to a minimum to avoid filling up people's mailboxes with unwanted mail.
This list may be used for the following purposes:
- Announcing events and/or news that may be of interest to all.
- Making inquiries about missionaries or anything else that relates to The Finland Helsinki Mission.
- Finding lost friends, relatives, investigators, and members.
- Giving the Finland Mission Office referrals. :)
- Making suggestions for online service.
- Sharing experiences and "gems" worth retelling to the list.
The idea of this list is for discussing things that we would normally not be able to do by normal means. So feel free to make this list what you want it to be - within reason of course. -:)
This list can, at times, go through periods of no activity and then have bursts of activity which can produce up to 10 or more posts a day. If you
would like your mail to come less frequently there is a solution:
This list has a digested version which means that all the posts that are sent to this list are archived and sent out(usually) once every day. To change your subscription status from normal to digested mode (or vice-versa) follow the link you were given when you were subscribed to this list or contact the list administrator.
From time to time the list program gets error messages from many of the subscribers. The list is set up to keep a count of these errors and if they persist over several days then your subscription will be turned off. This option can be set by you if you plan on being away for a time.
If you ever feel the need to check your status on this list if you don't get mail for a while you can use the www interface at which was received in your welcome note when you were subscribed to the list.
This interface will allow you to subscribe and/or unsubscribe from this list or some of the others that I host here. If you have a need I can even make a mailing list for your own needs.
The owner of this list (myself) will remove people from this list with
little or no warning for the following reasons:
1. repeated bashing of church leaders or church history or members of this list
2. spamming the list with chain letters and virus warnings (Yes, it means all the good luck totems and ads too!)
3. if your e-mail account bounces back messages with "mailbox full" or "user unknown" messages and the like.
A major reason for the eventual success and longevity of this list is its lack of topic moderation and the responsibility that the members have
taken for policing themselves. The list administrator and others are all volunteer administrators and should be contacted with any questions concerning list policy or problems with your subscription.
Here are a few ground rules for posting to the list:
The list is not for the discussion of whether or not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lord's Church or whether or not Gordon B. Hinckley is the Lord's prophet holding the keys of the Priesthood for this dispensation. The alt.religion.mormon newsgroup is an excellent forum for these discussions if you are so inclined. The history of doctrinal development within the LDS Church is not consistent. However, we are not here on this forum to debate such things or to try to over-analyse the temple ceremony and/or how it and the church has changed. There are many other lists on Internet to discuss these things and I do not intend for this list to become another one of those. This group seeks to reconcile themselves, their beliefs and their experiences while serving as missionaries, not tear down the Church or its leaders or promote individual or group apostasy.
Rules
Postings should not contain profanity or swearing, personal attacks, or overt discussion of those portions of the temple ceremonies and ordinances which endowed members have covenanted not to reveal or discuss outside the temple walls. Postings should adhere to the topic guidelines discussed in the preceding paragraphs. (also see the Advice section below)
We should also avoid getting into a false intelectuality trap called "political or social postering". In short, this means to avoid making this mailing list a place to complain about political discussions or social problems to which we have no control over. This issues are perspective based and there are as many perspectives on these issues as there are list members. We have another mailing list which allows this type of discission (FMA-Forum).
Advice
As a rule of thumb, write your posts as if you were in another member's home or other meetings like a church social or an informal meeting and addressing the group or an individual therein. This doesn't mean that you should not discuss things outside what is the scope of our experience in and out of the Finnish Mission, but it does mean that you are to show some respect and goodwill to all you come into contact with here on this forum. We are brothers and sisters. Remember, your post is being read by all the rest of the list members so it is very analogous to the public meeting scenario. Don't use the anonymity of the Internet to act or speak differently than you would in public. Treat folks the way you want to be treated. Address the topic and idea without belittling or otherwise judging the author. Deliberately using comments to upset people or to create a negative atmosphere is not allowed either. In other words, use your best judgment at all times.
What I Would Like To See More Of
I would like to hear about how we dealt with difficult companions or situations. I would like to read the funny stories as well (everything from greenie jokes to odd events with members and investigators). I would like to hear about the sad and the glad events that happened as well. Also let us all try and find those lost souls out there too. This included former companions, members and investigators!
To get started why don't you introduce yourself to the list by sending your first message to fma@ldsn.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you for your support and willingness to take part in this method of keeping in touch globally.
